Interesting fact: while today is St. Patrick's Day, and most people will go out and drink themselves silly tonight, tomorrow is Sheelah's Day.

In Ireland, Sheelah's Day is celebrated for Sheelah-Na-Gig, goddess of fertility and sexuality. Naked Sheela-na-gig figures appeared in Irish churches constructed before the 16th century, but most were defaced or destroyed during the prudish Victorian age, just like the missionaries destroyed all the Totem poles in the Pacific Northwest.

Well, I can sorta understand this kind of destruction. Mother Sheela sits above the door to the churchs holding her vagina wide open and smiling.

Ideally, the celebration involves you get absolutely pissed on the night of St. Patrick's Day, drowning a shamrock in your whiskey in your last glass of whiskey and spending the wee hours of the morning celebrating Sheelah's Day. Hopefully in a way that celebrates your fertility, nudge, wink.
