Lima Time
You dont have to be a baseball fan to love this comeback story. In Kansas City, its Lima Time. OK, JJ, non-baseball fans are asking, WTF is Lima Time? And I am so glad you asked. Jose Lima is the veteran right handed pitcher the Royals rescued from the Independent League this June. The Newart Bears! Never heard of the Independent League? Its the Red-Heart yarn of baseball. Lima was a 20 game winner for the Astros back in 99, but pitching luck has not been smiling on him for the last few years. Last year the Detroit Tigers AKA the Toothless Tabbies, dumped poor Jose. Truth is they not only dumped him, but the Tigers general manager, Dave Drombrowski sent all the other team a letter advising them not to take a chance on Senor Lima. Well, his ERA, was 7.7 but that is just rude. Meanwhile your Royals are looking for a veteran pitcher to guide their young bullpen. Lima is from the Dominican Republic. Royals manager Tony Pena (the N is supposed to have one of these ~ over it) is from the DR, too. Tony decides to take a chance on his countryman. Tony is a believer and seems to be able to bring out the best in anyone from the teams superstar to the beerman in the stands. Since joining the Royals Lima is 7-0! ERA is a tiny 2.1. ``I was out of baseball pretty much,'' Lima said. ``But now I'm having fun again.'' Lima pitched against Detroit today and won. Its Dave Drombrowskis birthday. Happy Birthday, Dave. ``Happy birthday to him,'' Lima said. ``I wish him health for many, many, many years.'' Do you think there is a chance for me to make a major league comeback? You've got to BELIEVE!
