October Fever
The time: Saturday Evening
The Place: Our House
The two physicians studied their patient with growing concern.
How long has he been like this? asked the tall Asian doctor named Tiu.
Since around 11am replied his bronze skinned colleague, a handsome Native American named Hawk. Hes just been sitting there in the recliner, staring at the television.
The long haired Asian physician consulted his watch. Thats over 10 hours. When was the last time you saw him move?
I think he got up to pee and get more iced tea around 6pm, between games replied Dr Hawk.
Good, so at least hes taking in fluids. Anything to eat? asked Dr Tiu, as he checked his blond patients eyes for signs of life.
Hes had a handful of Cheez-its and some Twizzlers. I wont lie to you, Mikey, Im worried. I mean, I have seen him do this before in October, but never like this
I'm worried, too. Has he said anything asked the willowy Asian.
More or less replied Hawk, He was mumbling something about a World Series without the Yankees
A World Series without the Yankees? But that makes no sense at all. He must be delusional. Whats this in his hand? He seems to have a death grip on it Tiu made a move to inspect the black rectangular shaped object in the patients hand, when suddenly the patient lets out a low menacing, alpha male growl. Tiu jumped back in alarm
Better not try to take the remote away from him again advised Hawk. I dont want you to get hurt
Tentatively, a small dark haired child enters the living room. Her large dark eyes are filled with tears. Is Daddy going to be all right?
Yes Honey her other father reassures her Just as soon as the baseball playoffs are over
