Kung Hey Fat Choi, Happy New Year and Welcome to the Year of the Goat. Guest editorial by Michael

This year we celebrate the Year of the Goat. You may also hear this year refered to as the year if the ram or the sheep. I prefer goat for obvious reasons.

Goat years draw their nature from the animal of the year. The Goat is known for elegance, creativity, artistic and peace-loving traits. Political and financial upsets can happen, and to these problems the Goat calls for a savior to ride up and save us from the edge of ruin. 2003 holds the promise of many things, and the optimist of the Goat says that the blessed unexpected can happen. A good time can be had those for those who are willing to improvise in the spirit of the Goat.

When the dire straits of the year are overlooked, the Goat will bear witness to art, music and theatre. The harder the times, the more people will turn to these for artistic distractions to see the nobility of mankind. Indulge yourself. Be creative yourself. Let others see it so they can rejoice with you.

Those who are in power will promote the arts to purposely redirect attentions from hardships. The analogy is the Roman coliseum. Dont become irresponsible in your duties as a citizen. The extreme shadow side of the Goat will be the entertainment that will be presented as news. Dont be tricked by the propaganda put out by those who will improperly use the energies of this year. They will want you to believe things that make you feel good. Question news, and know what you are hearing and seeing. React if necessary. Remember that the unpredictability of this year, the inventiveness of the Goat, is available to all. Show discontent with the peace that is at the heart of the Goat.

The Year for Each Animal

Rat: Things are better this year. Have a party. Pretty things up. Dig out some bubbly and celebrate, as there will be more abundance where that came from.

Ox: The playfulness of the year will not suit the Oxens usual plodding way. Uncertainty bothers the Oxen. He doesnt tolerate the capricious ways of the Goat. The Goat may be fiddling while Rome burns, but the Oxen can at least learn a few steps in the resulting dance.

Tigers: Its a year to travel. You dont have to stay at home this year. Get out and see the world. The permissiveness of this year will give you permission to relax and get out of the Goats way.

Rabbit: This is a good year for the also creative Rabbit. Revel and relax in this atmosphere.

Dragons: A wise Dragon will not get involved in the pretentiousness of the year. Do so only in the spirit of love, as this year will draw attentions away from the Dragons own interests.

Snakes: Are you worried about this year? The Snake enjoys security, and this year may not fit the bill. Stop worrying and enjoy the fun.

Horse: This is going to be a good year for you. Now is your chance to make up for lost time on the job. Work will benefit you, and gains will be made slowly but surely. Get back into the rat-race.

Goat/Sheep: This is your year gentle Goat. Youre on top of things now. Enjoy all the creativity and artistic endeavors that you can muster. Make peace and make love like only you know how to so the rest of us will benefit from your time.

Monkey: The monkey will benefit from the expected twists and turns of this year. Ideas abound. Look before leap, but do leap!

Rooster: The Roosters ways are conservative. Goats are too easy-going for the Rooster. This will make for an anxious year for you.

Dog: Loyalty is not recognized during this year. The devotion you show wont get its due this year. Relax, it will be over soon.

Pig/Boar: Money is good this year. Love is going to get back to normal too. A good year for you as your get back to your emotional feet.
