Yes! We Have no Bananas

Whoa! According to a front page article on Yahoo this AMmy ultimate source for all things newsybananas may become extinct in 10 years. Why, you ask? The experts say that bananas no longer have sex?

Well, that expert obviously never worked in an emergency room or has never seen a XXX video called Flesh and Blood. It features our talented friend, Steve Pierce. For those of you familiar with Steves body of work, nuff said.

Seriously, it seems that the bananas that we have on our Wheaties every morning have no biodiversity and a banana blight or the right pest could wipe them out It happened with American chestnuts once. Ever wonder why we sing about roasting chestnuts every holiday, but no one really does it. The American chestnut crop was wiped out in 1904 and has only recently made a small come back. If you had chestnuts for Christmas, they were probably Italian

The Belgium botanist that is quoted in the Yahoo article says only biotechnology and genetic manipulation may be able to save it. Why does this make me nervous? Those bananas needs to start screwing NOW! Maybe the article is carefully planted to justify banana prices increasing to $1/lb. I understand George W has accused Sadaam of stockpiling bananas

But I wouldnt suggest you start stockpiling bananas just yet. They will just turn brown and youll be making banana bread by Monday

Banana Bread

Recipe courtesy of Emeril Lagasse

1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

3/4 cup mashed ripe bananas

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/4 cups flour

1/2 cup macadamia nuts

Pinch of cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Oil and flour a 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.

Using an electric mixer, cream the shortening and sugar. With the mixer running on medium speed, add the eggs one at a time. Add the bananas and mix well. Add the baking soda, salt, flour, nuts and cinnamon and mix thoroughly. The dough will be sticky.

Pour the dough into the prepared pan and bake about one hour or until the center is brown and set.
