Happy endings Just two short observations: Story #1. Friday night, Kaufman Stadium, Royals vs Cardinals. Cutie pie, left fielder Mark Quinn, running for a fly ball, pulls a hamstring and goes down. Pea puts in the new kid, just-off-the-bus from Omaha, rookie Brandon Brueger. Young Brandon is the only bright spot in the whole game, hitting a 3-run homer at his first at-bat and ANOTHER homer later in the game. Way to show the couch you are major league material, Brandon. Story #2 Martin and Gracia Burnham, 2 American missionaries from Wichita, had been held hostage by the Muslim extremist group, Abu Sayyuf, in the Phillipines for over a year. Driving 'round town, you would see the message 'Pray for the Burnhams' on church message, boards, billpoints and even homemade yard signs. I know Rabbi Jake always included them in his prayer list. Friday, a daring rescue attempt of the Burnhams was staged, Gracia was rescued but sadly, Martin was killed in the 2 hour shoot-out. What? The good guys are supposed to win. The pinch-hitting rookie gets the homer, the missionaries are rescued Current Mood: angry
